Women Build 2016 is Off to a Great Start!

Habitat for Humanity of Oakland County Steering Committee Members kicked off their 2016 “Reno to Residence” Women Build project this week. Habitat Oakland County Women Build demonstrates the unstoppable power of women coming together to fundraise, volunteer and make the dream of homeownership possible for a hardworking, female homebuyer.

The 2016 Women Build homeowner is Cindy and the road to ownership hasn’t been easy for her.  In 2010, she was diagnosed with Lyme Disease and she is still trying to regain her strength from its devastating effects. Currently, Cindy and her children live in a cramped trailer home. She wants nothing more than for her children to have a safe, peaceful space to grow and play and a place for her to pray and heal. Cindy is incredibly grateful about the home she has selected in Oak Park and will also be working alongside the volunteers.

“This program brings together women from all walks of life to address the housing crisis facing thousands of women and children right in our community,” says Johnna Struck, Women Build Steering Committee Chairperson and owner of Changing Places Moving. “It’s a great way to work alongside local women, learn new skills, and support Habitat Oakland County’s mission.”
